What is Somatic Psychotherapy?

Somatic Psychotherapy is a treatment approach that encourages the use of both verbal and nonverbal communication, and utilizes the body (both directly and indirectly) to help facilitate unconscious processing. More simply, it encourages the client to become comfortable with understanding and using the bodily sensations and movement to support health and healing.

There are many different types of somatic therapy including Gestalt, Hakomi, Sensorimotor, Somatic Experiencing, Dance/Movement Therapy, and many others.
