Lauren McAviney, LMHC

Licensed Mental Health Counselor

I enjoy building relationships with my clients and practicing both the art and science of psychotherapy, helping clients identify patterns in their lives and ways they can change and adjust, and fostering a creative space to discover possibilities where none appeared to exist before. I see therapy as an opportunity to connect to the deeper aspects of the human experience that help give us meaning and a sense of purpose. I have worked with clients that are experiencing, but not limited to, depression, anxiety, PTSD/complex trauma, psychotic disorders, personality disorders, and ADHD. In practical terms, I have helped clients with emotion regulation skills, assertiveness and communication skills, conflict management and problem solving skills, managing life transitions, issues related to work and career, and processing grief and loss.

I practice primarily from a person-centered approach, providing a safe and non-judgmental environment where clients can feel free to express themselves and discover new ways of relating to themselves and others. I also draw from the principles of many different counseling theories and techniques including psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), play therapy, mindfulness, and trauma-informed practice. I enjoy working with clients of all ages, throughout the developmental lifespan.

I recently joined the practice at Counseling Services of Greater Boston after spending the past 6 years working at a community mental health clinic in Boston. I received my M.A. in Mental Health Counseling from Boston College and became officially licensed as a mental health counselor in May 2022.
