Crystal Montoya, LMHC

Licensed Mental Health Counselor

I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with experience working with children, adolescents, young adults, and families. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Human Development from Wheelock College and a Master of Arts in Counseling and Expressive Arts Therapy from William James College. I have worked in community-based settings and in a special education therapeutic school and support individuals with a wide variety of difficulties and comorbidity, such as depression, anxiety, ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorders, mood disorders, trauma, grief/loss, relational and adjustment issues.

My therapeutic approach is focused on fostering a collaborative experience in a safe, supportive and creative space. My initial goal is to develop a meaningful and trusting relationship and meet clients where they are at as I provide the structure to identify goals, develop skills and make a plan to address areas of self-improvement. I have found that open communication with clients, families, and involved agencies is key and that a positive and constructive therapeutic relationship is crucial in progress and sustainability. I utilize a number of theoretical approaches, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Expressive Arts Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, Person-Centered Therapy, mindfulness practices and trauma informed care. I pride myself in conducting beneficial treatment in a creative, fun, and safe manner and strive to help each individual I work with feel secure and accepted.
