I am a pre-licensed mental health counselor and pursuing certification as a registered drama therapist. My therapeutic approach centers on the knowledge that each human being is the expert in their own life, and already possesses the strengths and capabilities they need to create a life that is meaningful, easeful, and worth living. Drama Therapy allows for an embodied and creative approach to mental healthcare, providing exploratory opportunities to discover what roles one is currently playing in their life, try on new ones, and cast aside roles that are no longer serving them. I feel strongly about viewing my clients as a whole instead of focusing on specific symptoms and honoring that mental wellbeing is influenced by the broader web of familial, social, economic, political, and global pressures. Beyond the many principles of Drama Therapy that my work is also grounded in, I incorporate complementary approaches such as Expressive Arts Therapy, Psychodramatic techniques, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, parts work, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.
As a ‘second lifer’ clinician who worked for ten years as an engineer, I pride myself on having cultivated a broad spectrum of understanding of the human experience and the stressors of modern day life. I currently have two years of experience working as a psychotherapist, with experience working with clients between the ages of 6 and 35, oftentimes interweaving familial and systemic support with individual client care. I am drawn to working with children, teenagers, and young adults experiencing anxiety, depression, acedia, low motivation, anger, and life transitions. I especially appreciate being able to working with clients that are exploring LGBT+ identities, are navigating disabilities, or are in the process of determining what they truly wish to do with their lives.
